Sustainability & Innovation

Sustainability is at the forefront of what we do at The B58 Winery. We are incredibly lucky to be based in the most beautiful part of the country and want to be part of enhancing it, by working with nature.

We are a profitable business which doesn’t just take, but also looks after resources enabling us to grow our produce and play an active role in protecting and preserving the world for future generations.

Our vines are grown on our sustainable and innovative New Forest Fruit Farm, where we place as much importance on what comes out of the soil, as to what goes in.

Transform

After transforming the world of soft fruit farming with innovative and environmentally friendly sustainable practices, never one to rest on his laurels, Sandy Booth has turned his focus to producing still wines.

OUR AIM IS TO BE ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE, ECONOMICALLY VIABLE AND SOCIALLY JUST

We re-use coir to grow vines, enriching it with microbiology to enhance water retention and nutrient availability. By protecting our grapes with tunnels, we significantly reduce the need for mildew sprays compared to outdoor-grown vines. We avoid herbicides entirely, removing weeds manually to maintain a natural balance. Biodiversity thrives on our farm, with fields bordered by hedgerows and wildflower verges.

Our holistic approach to pest control involves creating optimal growing conditions and introducing natural predators, eliminating reliance on chemical solutions. Regular vineyard monitoring and crop walks allow us to identify potential issues early and implement targeted, sustainable measures.

Attending to grape vine

“We are thrilled to release wines, that represent years of dedication and innovation. My goal has always been to produce wines that are full of character and complexity, and through our sustainable, lowintervention approach, I believe we have achieved that.”

What sets us apart is the way in which we grow our vines.
Our innovative approach of growing vines in tunnels enables the fruit to have less opportunity for disease, to be more abundant and we are also able to ensure consistency in terms of the quality and quantity from one year to the next as we’re not as reliant on weather patterns compared with vines grown entirely outside. This growing process also allows us to grow grape varieties that aren’t usually successfully grown in the UK.
